Things your money can buy

When making a donation it's always good to know where the money is going and who will benefit from it. Here are some practical examples of what your money could buy and who will benefit from your donation:

  • £5 will pay for a travel card so an unemployed person can attend a job interview
  • £20 pays for a one-to-one sesson for someone to get support in writing a new CV, preparing for an interview or applying for jobs
  • £30 pays for a new outfit and shoes for a jobseeker to wear to an interview
  • £50 could pay for specialist tools and resources required for a jobseeker to begin a course or work placement

In real terms:

£20 is what it cost for each one-to-one session in which we helped Thomas re-write his CV, overcome barriers due to his mental health and change his career path completely after six months of unemployment. Thomas had experience in machine operation however wished to change his career and get a job in care. He now works full time after he received support on the Work Programme at Darlaston Jet to write a CV, gain some work experience and improve his interview techniques.

£44 paid for Lee's DBS check which was paramount to him getting the job he wanted. After funding his DBS check for him we were able to help Lee secure a start date at his new job and he now works full time in a care role which has great career growth opportunities for him and has meant that he has been able to sign off benefits and support himself with his full time income.

£500 is what it cost for Stuart to take part in the Learn My Way ICT course, which has helped him to improve his ICT skills and begin applying for jobs independently. Stuart suffered a stroke several years ago which left him house-bound throughout his recovery, meaning he had to leave his job. When his benefit was changed from ESA to JSA last year he needed support to get back into work. Stuart has been studying the course at his own pace and his new ICT skills will help to improve his chances of finding work when he is ready.
