Bridges Participant Helps Get Locals Moving During Lockdown

Showcasing both entrepreneurial flair and community spirit, Bridges participant, Suzy Street-Hall, has gone above and beyond in recent weeks to ensure that local households remain healthy and active during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since lockdown measures were introduced in March, Suzy has been utilising her knowledge and years of experience working within the fitness and health management industry to develop tailored keep-fit plans for people to do from the comfort of their own homes. Under her StreetFIT brand, this initiative has been primarily orchestrated via social media platforms and pre-recorded video content, with workouts being suitable for those of varying fitness levels and abilities.

In addition to her commitment to getting the region moving, Suzy recently undertook the challenge of doing 3,000 sit-ups throughout the month April, which saw her raise £500 for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity. This money will be spent on the procurement of vital PPE for NHS frontline workers.

With regards to the work that she has been doing, Suzy commented: “I am delighted to be able to have such a positive impact on the lives of those living in the local community, helping them feel connected whilst they’re having to socially distance. Whilst these are challenging times for many, I firmly believe in the physical and mental benefits of exercise and body movement, which is highly important right now.

“As for the fundraising initiative, it seems we are now more appreciative of our healthcare system than perhaps ever before and, with my partner working at the QE during this time, I just wanted to do my bit to support our wonderful NHS.

“Once the current situation has eased, I hope to continue working with the Bridges team to further develop StreetFIT into a viable business opportunity, and am confident I will be able to achieve this with their expert guidance.”

Speaking about the support she has received from Bethan Roberts, her Bridges Project Officer, Suzy commented: “I cannot sing her praises enough! The help and support she has been able to offer me over the last 12 months has been fantastic. In particular, she has really helped to improve my confidence levels, which has been instrumental in the development of StreetFIT. Even during recent weeks, whilst lockdown measures have been in place, Bethan has continued to provide advice over telephone and email that I have found to be incredibly valuable.”
