Sulaiman is 56 and had a variety of jobs, but after being unemployed for several months started receiving support from Age UK Walsall as part of the BBO project.

The main barriers Sulaiman needed to overcome were his lack of up to date relevant qualifications and improving his ICT skills. Age UK Walsall agreed actions with Sulaiman to overcome these barriers and help him return to paid employment as soon as possible.

Sulaiman quickly found temporary employment order picking at Amazon in the build up to Christmas but was disappointed when the role ended after only a few weeks. Sulaiman returned to Age UK Walsall for support with a goal of long term employment.

As well as supporting Sulaiman look for work Age UK have helped him improve his ICT skills by both arranging for him to attend courses at the library and providing 1 – 1 training.

Sulaiman was also receiving support from the job centre and successfully completed a warehouse course but unfortunately failed the subsequent FLT training course. Sulaiman was bitterly disappointed about this and felt with a little more support he would gain his licence. Age UK Walsall supported Sulaiman find a more suitable course and he gained his Counterbalance FLT licence with time to spare on the course so he could start learning to drive a Reach FLT as well.

Sulaiman is very hopeful that with his new qualification and ICT skills he will soon be able to fulfil his goal of returning to long term paid employment.
