The world's biggest bike-share operator 'nextbike' has been chosen to deliver a new bike-share scheme across the West Midlands, the largest docked bike-share scheme in the UK outside of London.

The scheme is set to create 50+ new jobs in the West Midlands including entry-level roles which Steps to Work has been selected to help fill. We will be working with nextbike to deliver bespoke training to individuals who are unemployed in order to help them become work-ready. Posts will include area managers, van drivers and mechanics as well as other entry-level positions.

The first bikes as part of the scheme will be hitting the streets in September 2018 with 2000 bikes being installed across Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. The remaining 3000 bikes will be rolled out in phases including Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley and Solihull in 2019.

"We are delighted to have been selected to support nextbike with their training and recruitment. Providing opportunities for local people is what we are passionate about. We work with so many individuals who are long-term unemployed and facing significant barriers to work, this partnership will make such a difference to so many people and will have a really positive impact on the West Midlands. We are really looking forward to seeing the scheme flourish from September and we are looking forward to working with Nextbike providing local trained people to go and work with such a forward thinking company in the West Midlands" Deborah Nickless, Employer Relationships Manager, Steps to Work.

Existing customers of Steps to Work will get the opportunity to undertake the bespoke training, it will also be open to individuals who specifically wish to work on the scheme. Individuals can contact Steps to Work on 01922 627555 to discuss how they can join the training later in the year, training is free of charge for participants and will help them to work towards employment.
