Latest Blog Samaritans visit Steps to Work to discuss mental health support Samaritans offer a safe space for people to talk about mental health issues and discuss their worries. Their number is free to call and their advisers are trained to provide non judgemental support for those suffering with anxieties or problems. Employability tutor Kerry invited Samaritans in to speak with her Confidence, Self-Esteem and Motivation course participants to help reduce the stigma around accessing support for mental health as well as advise them of the different types of support available and how to access it. The session helped participants to understand about the help available as well as gain an insight into the sort of support that the Samaritans offer. They learned a valuable lesson about how everyone deals with situations differently which helped them to realise that they didn't need to feel silly about accessing the support for any concerns or anxieties they may have. It is important to reduce the stigma around mental health and that's what this session aimed to do. Kerry's participants have been learning how to improve their confidence and self esteem as well as preparing to apply for jobs. The sessions have seen the participants improve greatly and become much more confident as the course has progressed. They have learned about positive affirmation and have created vision boards through a variety of activities including roleplay sessions and group discussions. It is a highly interactive and rewarding course that has seen a number of guests come in to speak with participants and offer them advice, support and an insight into their own roles.
