The BRIDGES Project Steps to Work are the lead organisation on the BRIDGES project, which covers the Black Country area offering support for people to overcome their barriers no matter and move closer to the job market. Steps to Work has received over £10.5 million from the Big Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund to run the project for three years, alongside partner organisations across the Black Country. EVOLVE Steps to Work are the lead organisation on the Evolve project, which offers the same support to participants in East Staffordshire. It covers Cannock, East Staffordshire, Lichfield and Tamworth. The project has received over £3 million from the Big Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund to run the project for three years alongside partner organisations across East Staffordshire. Thank you to staff there for giving me the confidence, advice and boost I needed to get my first job in over a year as a Forklift Truck Operative.” When Philip joined Performance Through People’s Evolve programme he felt he was in a rut. He’d been unemployed for over twelve months and had applied for jobs with no success. His confidence and motivation were at an all-time low. He had worked as a fabricator but due to health reasons could no longer continue. He needed help and guidance on finding a new direction and career path – and a lift in confidence to get there! Dawn, PTP’s Employability Tutor, took time to understand Philip as a person: his interests, skills and previous experience to identify viable options. It was after the Team Building and Confidence Challenge Day in Cannock Chase that we really began to see a positive change in Phillip’s attitude towards himself and his future. He’d began to turn a corner. Philip was conscious that he had no formal qualifications but was keen to retrain. He decided he wanted to purse Forklift Truck Driving. Dawn arranged for him to complete a Forklift Truck license through PTP Training and following completion of the course Phillip passed his assessment test first time! Philip continued to see Dawn for regular advice and support including CV building and interview techniques, something he really valued. After applying for several positions, Philip was invited for an interview for a Forklift Truck Operative at GESTAMP in Cannock. With Dawn encouraging and coaching him, he had a strong interview. It came as no surprise when Philip received the call from GESTAMP that he had been successful. Philip starts working for GESTAMP, and the first step in his new life, at the end of the month.
