Project officer Bethan with Brian

Brian has been unemployed since 2011 when he was made redundant from an administrator role after 10 years of continuous employment.

In 2012 Brian suffered a heart attack and with chronic back pain due to a prolapsed disc he found it very difficult to get back into work and had relied upon ESA benefits for four years. Unfortunately in 2015 his benefit changed to JSA and Brian knew he had to start looking for work.

Brian needed support to improve his confidence and re-write his CV which Bethan was able to provide through the BRIDGES project.

Brian’s career goal was to become a financial administrator or an accounts assistant and he registered to start his AAT Level 2 accounting at Walsall Adult Community College however the cost was too high. With Bethan’s help Brian success-fully applied to WHG People’s Fund and was able to secure the funding needed to pay for the resources needed to undertake the course.

Brian is pleased with how much his confidence has improved and says he is extremely grateful for the support he has received through BRIDGES. Project officer Bethan says:

“I am confident that he will achieve his future job goals and continue to develop his confidence and motivation.”
