Bridges Helps Liz Feel More Optimistic

When Liz signed up to Bridges she had been out of work for 3 years after being made redundant from her admin role in London. She hadn’t needed to look for work at that time due to being able to draw on her pension.

Liz was unsure what direction to move in as she had found herself at a point where she needed to find an income of some kind, but did not want to sign up for benefits. She felt very low and struggled with her confidence and motivation – she felt increasingly isolated and in a rut.

Realising that she needed to register for benefits, Liz thought that due to health issues she might be able to apply for ESA. The Bridges team at WVSC arranged appointments with specialist advisors at Citizens Advice who helped her to submit the applications – the process made Liz really frustrated and she needed a lot of support from the Bridges team to keep going.

WVSC helped Liz to get to grips with job searching and updating her CV along with looking for a voluntary placement that would help improve her confidence as well as enable her to gain some up to date experience and help her to get out and meet more people. She took on two roles, one in reception/admin and a second as an advisor at Citizens Advice. She loved doing this, and her confidence noticeably increased. She especially enjoyed the advisor role and enrolled on an Information Advice and Guidance distance learning course to help her progress in the field.  She has really progressed while on Bridges – her confidence has improved and now feels she has a purpose.

“The project workers were very supportive and encouraging, I will miss the sessions! I am very grateful and I now feel much more optimistic about my future. I received an excellent service”
