Anita is 60 years old and first joined the BBO Project in March 2017. Anita had previously worked in a factory operating machinery, however a medical condition prevented her from continuing in this setting.

Having been out of work for 14 months, Anita volunteered at her local charity shop but sought help and support from Age UK Walsall to enable her to return to paid work.

Age UK Walsall have assisted Anita in improving her ICT skills by supporting her in setting up an email address, using the internet and developing her basic ICT knowledge.  Anita now attends a 1-1 session every week at Age UK and has gained the confidence to job search independently and send emails.

Anita faced several barriers when joining the project, which became more apparent as she began applying for jobs.  She lacked confidence, self-esteem and social inclusion.  Anita was invited to attend Age UK Walsall’s Afternoon Tea event last month.  She demonstrated willingness from the start and even helped source items for the day and made contact with a friend to source some donations.

On the day, Anita worked exceptionally hard, became fully involved with both the staff and visitors and really enjoyed the day and felt she made new friends.  Anita has already agreed to attend our next Summer Event and hopes to help out again.

Anita continues to job search with Age UK Walsall and, with her developing confidence, now attends her local church group on a weekly basis.

“I loved helping out at the afternoon tea & helping people”
