"A great big thank you to Phil at BDS Learning - the help and support I received from the Evolve project has been invaluable in setting up my new business venture. It is my dream come true to become self employed and economically active again. He was very thorough and I was able to understand all the input and advice given to me”

The nature of Bev's new business is to provide Home Care Respite support for parents with Special Needs Children. Beverley has had many years experience of secretarial, telesales and administration work but had also suffered a medical condition requiring surgery and long periods of leave and recuperation which made it impossible for her to maintain a regular job and be fair to an employer. In addition her niece had autism and needed help. It is for those reasons that Bev’s Respite Service started to take shape.

She will be providing parents with short term respite support on an hourly basis to enable them to undertake activities on their own such as shopping or personal time needs. Bev’s research showed that there is a significant number of families in the Tamworth area requiring support and indeed such a service was not available from local provision already in existence. With her personal family experience and knowledge in this sector it became clear that her dream of working for herself could indeed become a reality. Bev had no experience of setting up or running a business so the Evolve programme and the help received proved crucial to achieving her aspirations. From initial discussions about her ideas to creating a business plan to prove the business viability to establishing her financial need to get started. To improve her skills and business proposition Bev was able to secure a work placement at a local school also giving her access to potential customers.

The business plan has enabled her to secure a National Enterprise Award, a grant from Tamworth Borough Council and also Bromford Housing to give her the start-up funding required.

Bev’s Respite Service is now “GOOD TO GO”
