Steve has 33 years of experience working as a gas fitter/plumber but at the end of November 2016 the contract he was working on came to an end and he fell out of work.

Finding job searching difficult Steve came to Work on the Horizon in January 2017 looking for help with gaining his CSCS card and searching for jobs online. Steve had passed the CSCS test already but was unsure what the next steps were in order to gain the card and get on site, so he sat down with advisor Kerry at WOTH who talked him through the process and downloaded the application form for him to fill in. Kerry also phoned CITB to clarify some of Steve’s queries and photocopied the relevant qualification records for Steve to send with his application form.

After preparing to send off Steve’s application for his CSCS card, Kerry then helped him improve his CV ready to present to employers. After identifying a few errors in his existing CV Kerry helped him to craft a new one and upload it onto various job sites to aid Steve’s application process.

With little knowledge of computers and searching for work online Steve needed assistance with ICT use so he was booked onto weekly one-to-one job search sessions and at each appointment he was guided in applying for around 10 vacancies per week.

Steve was successfully offered a position with LG Fire & Building Services Ltd in Willenhall as a plumber which he started at the end of February 2017. He says that before coming to WOTH he felt lost as he had always been in work and hadn’t experienced unemployment before. Steve is elated and feels really positive about his future now that he has found another job, and he is thrilled with the help, advice and support that he received.

“Without the help from the staff at Work on the Horizon this opportunity would not have come so quick; I am really grateful!”
