“BRIDGES supported me and put me on the right track, it gave me a push in the right direction to start my business”

Mufeed joined the BRIDGES project in December last year. He found the project through engagement with the Work Programme provider in Dudley.

Mufeed came to the UK when he was 5 from the Yemen and studied in the UK achieving GNVQ in Tourism and Leisure.  He recently attained a L1 and L2 in plastering and hoped to convert this into a self -employment opportunity within the construction industry. He had been unemployed for a long time following a vicious attack which left him with ongoing medical conditions.

Mufeed worked with Access to Business on this and received 1:1 support to develop a business plan.  His work programme provider also made links with an employer who was looking for a plasterer on self-employed basis.  The Project Officer worked with Mufeed to register his business in August and take up the opportunity.

His confidence to move forward grew and he said of the project “I’ve had a push in the right direction and working with BRIDGES put me on track”
