Learners at Walsall-based training charity Steps to Work have achieved a 91% pass rate in a qualification from the British Safety Council (BSC)
The BSC Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work is a nationally recognised qualification that provides workers with crucial knowledge of Health and Safety issues in the workplace. So far this year 126 New Deal clients from Steps to Work have sat the examination, with 115 achieving a pass, which equates to almost one person every day this year achieving a qualification in Health and Safety.
The course is particularly relevant as 229 people were killed in UK workplaces last year and over 30,000 were seriously injured.
The Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety at Work covers topics such as hazards, risk assessment, safety signs, personal protective equipment and fire.
The BSC is providing free Level 1 qualifications to organisations working with those not in education, employment and training (NEETs).
The BSC’s Chief Executive, Brian Nimick, said: “Not only will this help keep employees healthy and safe at work, but it also provides them with a nationally-recognised qualification.”
Sharon Green, Tutor at Steps to Work said: “With many of our learners having few or no qualifications, this course offers them a real confidence boost and helps break down barriers to employment.”
“The free course has been made very easy to deliver with the BSC providing the resources and materials. If I have had any queries the staff at BSC have always been very friendly and efficient in dealing with these. I have really enjoyed delivering this course and will continue to do so in the future” added Sharon.
