 Future Routes celebrate!

Learners from the project said, “I have found this training active and fun; its been a confidence boost for me. I have really enjoyed the camping and team building, Future Routes has made learning fun”

On the evening of Thursday 14th July 2011, Steps to Work held a celebratory end of year party to honor the young achievers from the Future Routes programme.  Future Routes is a successful programme supporting young people who are not in education, training or employment.

The project started in September 2009 and has since supported 78 young people on the programme develop skills, obtain employment and 71% of the learners have moved onto further education or training. Whilst taking part in Future Routes, the young learners have taken part in a range of practical training units such as first aid, food hygiene, health & safety, all that have been externally accredited. Others have gone further to extend their training by completing ASDAN Personal and Social Development Award, adding towards their qualification list.

Each individual who has been supported have moved on from where they started and the projects successes and development of the learners would not have been possible without the input and support from a whole range of partners. Steps to Work would like to thank the 14-19 Engagement Team at Walsall Childrens Services (Serco), The staff at Prospects Careers, the Youth Offending Team, Connexions, Sandwell House, Spindle Tree and the local Schools in the Borough of Walsall.

The evening was a huge success and Steps to Work congratulated and thanked the Future Routes team, past and present for their hard work and commitment to supporting and coaching each individual. An award for the learner who had travelled the furthest was given to Faye Hurst who started the project in 2008.
