Young learners recognised

Kickstart achievers Phillippa Roberts, Becky Hodgetts and Charlotte O'Donnell

Young learners on the Kickstart-Life project were honoured at a special event to celebrate their achievements at Steps to Work’s Wolverhampton project centre.

The Kickstart-Life project aims to engage with young people aged 16 – 18 years old who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) by giving them positive learning experiences and the skills and confidence to progress into employment or other learning.

The celebration event was designed to recognise learners who made the most of the opportunities provided through the project which is backed by Black Country Training Group, the Learning and Skills Council and European Social Fund.

The project, which started in September 2008, has supported 39 young people and forged strong links with a number of partner organisations including the Prince’s Trust and Black Country Connexions.

Each learner received a certificate and three special awards for outstanding achievement were presented by David Wheeler, Chairman of Steps to Work.

Steve Powell, Kickstart:Life Tutor at Steps to Work, said: “The Kickstart:Life project aims to engage with young people in Wolverhampton. The support we offer goes beyond attaining qualifications and focuses on raising levels of motivation, confidence and giving them a new enthusiasm for learning.”
