Language prooves no barrier for Yacine
Yacine added, “I’m so pleased to be working again, Steps to Work have been supportive and friendly towards me when I didn’t know anyone or know what to do next. I’m really grateful for the extra help if been given””
Yacine moved to the UK from France in 2010 and has over 5 years experience in working in care whilst living in France. Referred to Steps to Work to attend the Work Programme by Jobcentre Plus, Yacine was suffering from low self esteem,
confidence and motivation, although she would never give up looking for employment.
French was Yacine’s first language, although she knew a little English, she found communicating a real difficulty.
Yacine’s lack of work experience and qualifications within the UK became another major barrier to gaining employment. Yacine needed support with her communication skills to help her improve her confidence and motivation to look for work, “I really wanted to find a job, I was just nervous when attending interviews or speaking to employers as I didn’t have a CV and needed help from other people. I also didn’t know the area I had moved to so needed help in sourcing care homes that might of had vacancies” added Yacine.
With the support of her Personal Coach and Steps to Works Employer Responsiveness Team, Yacine was given the opportunity to attend an interview with Orchard Manor Care Home, an employer Steps to Work have been working with for over 5 years, providing them with qualified, committed and reliable staff. Yacine was successful and started work
the following week, enabling her to sign off jobseekers allowance and improve upon her NVQ qualifications communication skills further.
Yacine is very much enjoying her new full time role as a Care Assistant and is providing care and assistance to the elderly who are in residence at Orchard Manor.
