Wise experience for Mohammed

Mohammed has been on placement with Steps to Work since November 2009. Leaving school at 16, Mohammed failed most of his GCSEs and had no idea what to do next. Whilst still at school, Mohammed’s careers advisor put him in touch with Walsall Education Business Partnership (WEBP). WEBP aim to raise the quality of skills amongst young people through activities such as work experience and help students decide what field of work they would like to work in.

WEBP have worked with Steps to Work for many years and have a good working
partnership placing students into all sorts work experience roles.

Mohammed wanted to gain experience in Administration and from this placement, Mohammed started volunteering with Steps to Work on its Workwise project. Workwise is a project that offers travel support and brakes down barriers to help jobseekers into employment.

Mohammed has been working as admin support with the Workwise team, learning communication skills and administration skills to prepare him for the ‘world of work’. Mohammed has also started an NVQ Level 2 in Business and Administration which he has found interesting and has been able to relate to his placement role at Steps to Work

Kate Corr, Workwise Officer said; “Mohammed has been very helpful and had learnt a lot whilst being on placement with us. He has been very flexible and willing to learn and do anything to help him get the experience he needs for future employment.”
