The right pass to the future for Toni
Toni said, “This will be the first job I have had and I am learning so much
already. The added bonus of having the travel pass for my first 3 months while in work is great. It’s really helping me get on my feet”
Toni had been attending college before having to postpone her further education due to health reasons. Toni explained; “I had to stop attending college because my health wasn’t very good and I was missing so much of the course, there was no way that I could of do work at home. Once I started to feel myself again, I thought it would be better for me if I could get a job with training that would give me some work history.”
Toni qualified for the Jobcentre Plus Future Jobs Fund programme. This involved unemployed young people who are in receipt of benefits, getting paid for 6 months employment, contracted at 25 hours a week. Toni was called for an interview with Steps to Work as a Trainee Administrative assistant, and got the job to start the following week.
Toni first heard about the Workwise project in Walsall when Jobcentre Plus advised her that she would be eligible to receive £37.50 per month for 3 months free travel, once she had been offered employment.
“I was so grateful to be given the opportunity to start work and get trained at the same time. This will be the first job I have had and I am learning so much already. The added bonus of having the travel pass for my first 3 months while in work is great. It’s really helping me get on my feet, Steps to Work and Workwise have been very supportive and will go above what is required to get people into work, whatever way they can” added Toni.
