Calistus had been unemployed for 12 months, feeling frustrated that he was unable to find suitable work, Calistus had become disheartened and helpless as to what direction to take to pursue his career.
Prior to this, Calistus has been volunteering as a general assistant at a local Church. Having 2 years experience within an administration role, Calistus has a level 4 certificate in Further Education Teaching and level 3 diploma in Payroll Management.
Calistus had previously attended Steps to Work on a mandatory programme and was directed to the Walsall ‘one stop employment shop’ for support and advice in looking for work. Calistus left with an updated CV and the confidence and motivation that he needed to start applying for work. It was suggested to Calistus that he should gain a work placement in payroll management or finance so he could gain the experience he needed to back up his academic qualifications which the Walsall one stop employment shop would help Calistus in sourcing.
From the support at the Walsall one stop employment shop, Calistus was signposted to Starting Point Recruitment, to see if the agency had any temporary payroll work with the Walsall Council Master Vendor contract. From looking at Calistus’ CV, work history and background, Starting Point Recruitment interviewed Calistus straight way and sourced him an interview with the Finance Department at Walsall Council.
Calistus was successful at the interview and has been working with Walsall Council for over 7 weeks. Calistus has received a £50 back to work bonus supported by the Walsall one stop employment shop. Calistus has gained his confidence back and is enjoying his work and meeting new people.
