New licence lifts Jim to employment

Jim added, “Im over the moon at finding work again, I didn't think work was out there for someone of my age but I have been proved wrong! Thanks to the team for helping me find my feet again”

Jim aged 50, was made redundant after several years of being employed as a Sheet Metal Worker. Having a history of heart problems, he thought that gaining another job with an understanding employer would prove to be very difficult and contacted Work on the Horizon to see what may be available to him.

Having previous Fork Lift Truck experience in the engineering industry, Jim’s FLT licence had expired for him to have an up to date licence that would enable him to gain employment.

Work on the Horizon where able toprovide funding for Jim to complete a refresh training course in counterbalance in order to up skill and improve his chances of finding employment. He soon achieved a new licence and up to date training which would of cost over £500- a cost that Jim wouldn't of been able to finance on his own.

After searching for work on the internet and using the job points at the ‘One Stop’ Shop, Jim thought that his chances of finding work where now more possible than ever, now that he had a current licence, nothing could hold him back.

Full of motivation and encouragement from the team, Jim had his CV re wrote and attended an interview techniques course to better his chances of success at the interview.

Jim’s perseverance paid off and a company in which he had send a speculative letter and CV to, saw Jims potential and asked him to undertake a work trial of 3 days with them as a Fork Lift Truck Driver and warehouse operative.
