Christine is motivated to employment success

Christine added, “A very big thank you to Steps to Work for giving me the boost I needed and support me after 7 years of

being out of work”

Christine has a child with Aspergers syndrome, an autistic disorder and is the main carer to her son. Having a demanding home life, Christine has been wanting to get back into work after has been unemployed for 7 years, therefore had been attending the A4e programme at Steps to Work.

After attending the centre and having regular one to one meetings with Personal Coach, Karen, Kay had expressed interest in working in the care sector. Having the personal attributes, patience and understanding to look after her sibling, Christine had all the qualities of a great care assistant, but because of her low self esteem and length of unemployment, she never believed in herself and didn’t know where to start looking for training and work in care.

Karen referred Christine to the Motiv8 2 Work course delivered at Townend House where she had been attending. Christine took part in the motivational training and learned Personal Care, Promoting Independence, First Aid, Manual Handling, Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Self Esteem and Interview Techniques.

During the 4 day course, Christine started to become motivated and became a prominent member of the class, showing leadership qualities and self belief. Christine attended a Job Interview Guarantee sourced through Steps to Work,

impressed the interviewers and was successful in gaining a post as a Care Assistant with the prospect of management and NVQ Level 3.

Christine is now working in full time sustainable employment, working for Caring Care in Walsall, providing homecare for service users in Bentley and surrounding areas. Christine now believes she is living her life to its fullest and has a sense of purpose in a rewarding job she enjoys.
